ADERES, jaesen
male
seventeen years old
of agnah province
Jaesen isn't necessarily tall, nor is he short. In fact, he's rather average for a seventeen year old, although he's still growing bit by bit. But as of right now, he's 5'8", putting him squarely next to a good portion of the other males in terms of height. The same goes for weight. He's 145 lbs. at the moment. He has a somewhat stocky build, with shoulders that are a bit larger than the average for his body type, and he is a little bit toned. He has a slightly brownish skintone - born with pale white skin, days spent in the sun have enabled him to gain a prominent tan.
Short, dark brown hair covers his head. After all, long hair is a symbol of rebellion - so why would you want to give off that type of impression? Jaesen makes sure to keep his hair short, for he would prefer not to be noticed instead of getting in trouble for the slightest thing; appearances matter when it comes to getting in trouble. If you look innocent and proper you'll get less of a punishment than one with long hair and a rather irritated expression, for example.
His eyes are brown and a bit cold-looking. They seem to stare at something rather intently, showing his particularly serious and dedicated side. If he is working on a math problem, etc. you'll see him be extremely concentrated; almost nothing will break that stare that he gives the paper until he finally gets the answer right. And when the answer is finally correct, the gaze will soften and oftentimes he'll blink and smile a bit in satisfaction.
As aforementioned, he's rather serious. Living in this type of world has required the boy to become the epitome of seriousness, otherwise how would he survive? With his seriousness also comes dedication - he'll do everything he can to get the job done, and he will tend to do it with a straight face, not showing much emotion in general (after all, that would mean that he isn't working to his fullest potential if he's swayed by petty emotions and whatnot). He doesn't laugh at jokes, nor does he really pay attention to small talk. He only thinks about the goal and the ways to achieve it.
In this sense he's extremely narrow-minded. He'll only go about a certain way, which tends to be the way that the The Society has taught him. Perhaps it is not the easiest way, nor is it the most straightforward way, but he'll do it nonetheless. All other ideas will be shrugged off, showing how stubborn he is in his attempt to follow everything to a "T". He needs to do it correctly, and he'll do so even if he could accomplish something so much easier by doing it another way. But once he does do this, the smallest bit of pride and relief is shown on his face through the thin smile that rarely appears.
That pride however can go a long way - perhaps he merely refuses help because it would make him seem less capable, and here in The Society it is required that one is capable, otherwise they are just nuisances and will most likely be faced with bad luck of some sort - who likes people who aren't useful to society? After all, everything is chosen for you - your mate, your job, your lifespan - you might as well be productive. And if he isn't productive then he just feels guilty that he can't be as productive as before, which leads to an increase in determination.
But like all people, he does have a secret or two. As much as he tries to stay stoic or dedicated or on task, he wonders what would happen if were not to be that way. What would happen if he were allowed to be himself? For deep down, he feels that he really is a different person, that this is all a facade, but he's too scared to open that pathway, for it could lead to nowhere good. What if he's a greedy, no-good person? So maybe he shall wonder this for a time, but it'll take a good deal of consideration for him to even attempt to discover himself. The true self.
He had always been taught that it was better to follow the rules rather than make up your own. After all, that was how The Society was created - there had been too much technology, too much free-thinking. It led to chaos. His parents and ancestors had adapted to this quickly, and had passed their knowledge over to him. Was it better to just finish your work, do everything correctly, help others and be unnoticeable? Or was it better to be creative, imaginative and dangerous? He picked the first one.
And from that day on, it seemed that the once curious boy had lost that sparkle of happiness in the world - no longer would the boy ask "Mama, what is that?" or "Can I hold it, grandma?" (although both of these statements would always result in scolding about how he was too curious) Instead, he would spend his nights up in his room, doing his chores or cleaning and whatnot. He tried to put everyone else before himself - that was the mature way to go about things. He was still following the rules and being helpful at the same time. Wasn't that the best of both worlds? But alas, to him it seemed like he would have to be the most obedient of them all, the smartest, the hardest worker, for sometimes he just didn't get it.
Unlike others, he had to work to get ahead; things didn't stick in his mind in an instant. He would have to pour over his work with an icy glare, a slight scowl on his face as equations refused to work out, facts refused to be etched into his memory - it was lucky that he wouldn't have to remember this all in the future. Soon he would get a job, and he'd become specialized in that category alone. But he still tried to be the best, for if he couldn't show emotion without being scolded for "crying" or for "getting irritated and using improper tones", then he might as well do what one doesn't need emotion for best.
Yet he's molded himself into something that is fake. He really isn't the stoic, colder than ice lad that people think he is, is he? At times he wonders if he has locked all of his feelings into a vault that's impossible to get rid of, for at times he just sits there, and there's nothing. No hope, no pessimism, no happiness, sadness, frustration - he's just there. For perhaps his mind was so fine tuned to the fact that he "has to be obedient and dedicated and hardworking - nothing else matters", that he lost himself in the process.
